Prince William smokes: but leave him alone and he'll sort it out
Commenting on the news that Prince William hasthe occasional cigarette (Sunday Express, 25th April 1999) ASH's Director CliveBates said:
"I think he should be left in peace - it'sup to him what he does in private. Lots of teenagers try smoking, and like most of them,he seems pretty well sorted out and will probably manage to give it up before he getshimself heavily addicted."
ASH expressed some surprise however at the newsthat the Royal nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, is a chain smoker:
"We know that kids are twice as likely tosmoke if their parents do - so it's hardly a surprise if Prince William follows theexample of the woman that has been helping to look after him in recent years." saidBates.
