Tobacco firm loses legal battle
Imperial Tobacco has lost a legal fight to stop Scottish Parliament legislation banning the display of tobacco products in shops.
The legislation, which comes into force next autumn, also includes a ban on cigarette vending machines in Scotland.

Video: Breckland councillors back smoke break proposal
Proposals to make workers clock off when they go for a cigarette break have been backed by a Norfolk council.
Staff at Breckland Council will not be paid in future for the time they take to have a cigarette after the proposals were given the go-ahead.

Smokefree laws come into force today in Barbados and Gambia
Gambia: The Gambia anti-public smoking act was enacted by the National Assembly on the 25th of July 1998 and assented to by the Gambian leader on the 23rd of September 1998. However the security forces of the country have only just announced that they would enforce the ban as of today.

Based on 2007 figure, the overall prevalence for adults in the country is 8.4 per cent (15.4 per cent of the male population, 2.2 per cent of the female population (smoked in the last 30 days)).

Small pubs welcome lifting of Dutch smoking ban
Owners of small pubs in the Netherlands have welcomed the lifting of a smoking ban imposed on the hospitality industry in 2008. The partial scrapping of the measure was announced on Tuesday.
The ban will remain in force, however, for pubs, restaurants and other premises staffed by more than one person.

The first time he met Sir Michael Caine , Tony Curtis, who died this week, snatched the other actor's cigarettes, threw them away and ordered him to quit smoking.

Although the entire Commonwealth Games Village is a strictly 'no smoking zone', a few guests can be seen smoking tobacco, with the site lacking a designated smoking area.
