BAT in Burma ‘dirty list’

British American Tobacco (BAT) has been included in a ‘dirty list’ of
companies targeted by human rights activists for their activities in Burma.

Human rights activists charge that businesses included in the dirty list are
those whose operations are said to be helping to finance the military
dictatorship in South East Asia. The list is to be published today by the
Burma Campaign. BAT is among 70 companies on the list.

ONS Household Survey out

The Office of National Statistics released it annual survey of British
households. Amongst a wealth of information that the survey has to offer,
such as the use of mobile phones in the household has reached 7 out of 10
compared to 58 percent last year.

The survey, of course, also found that 27 percent of smokers were cigarette
smokers last year, with the habit most common among people in their 20s and
early 30s. The proportion of Britons who smoked fell from the 1970s to the
early 1990s but has since levelled out.

GSK left holding its breath

GlaxoSmithKline PLC said it faces a delay in winning US approval to market
its top selling asthma drug Advair as a treatment for chronic obstructive
pulmonary disorder (COPD) often called “smokers cough”. Europe’s biggest
drug maker is working with the US Food and Drug Administration to clarify
outstanding issues, a process industry analysts say could take up to a year
to settle.
