ASH response to the Department of Trade and Industry consultation on the European Commission's proposal for sales promotions and regulations CCP 001/02. ASH is against the inclusion of addictive and harmful substances such as tobacco. The main problem with the draft regulation is that it would require member states to accept tobacco promotions originating from other member states under the mutual recognition process.

ASH evidence to opponents of the Tobacco Advertising Bill
Opponents of the Bill argued that there is insufficient evidence that a ban on tobacco advertising leads to a drop in consumption capable of saving 3,000 lives per year. ASH wrote to the shadow health secretary, presenting him with the evidence. Here you can see a copy of the letter and a summary of the evidence presented. ASH did not receive a reply.
