FOREST (UK) (External Web Page)
Freedom Organisation for the Right to Enjoy Smoking Tobacco (FOREST). This group claims to campaign on behalf of smokers but are funded almost entirely by the tobacco industry. They have consistently opposed measures designed to help the 70% of smokers who say they want to quit. Relying heavily on tobacco industry funded research and questionable celebrity endorsement, they have achieved few recent lobbying successes.

The standard is subject to on going development in several key area's and users may find it useful to explore the accountability site to keep on top of new additions and discussions relating to the standards development. AA1000 is the CRS standard adopted by BAT in its current corporate social responsibility programme.

US FDA jurisdiction on tobacco products (External Web Page)
In 1995 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asserted that: "Nicotine in cigarettes and smokeless Tobacco products is a drug and these products are nicotine delivery devices under the Federal Food, Drug, And Cosmetic Act" thereby bringing tobacco within FDA jurisdiction. This was the start of a legal battle for many years on whether cigarettes and smokeless tobacco should be included under FDA jurisdiction.
