“Cig Firm’s sick gift for cancer victim”
Widower Christopher Feltham was devastated when a cigarette firm sent
his wife a loyalty reward – 14 months after she died from lung cancer.
His wife Renate, died aged 56 after smoking 20 cigarettes a day since
she was 15. The ‘gift’ also arrived with a message, “You have been
with us a long time. As a thank-you for your custom over the years, we
would like to give you this quality umbrella”.

Smoking parents are No1 cause of cot death
The main cause of cot death is babies sleeping in the same bed as a
mum who smokes, new research published in the British Medical Journal
Eight out of ten parents, who lose their child through cot death,
smoke.
Seventy infants are found dead alongside their smoking parents per
year.
Professor Ed Mitchell, from the University of Auckland in New Zealand,
states, “It is time to recommend that mothers who smoke should not
share a bed with their babies.”

Cigars for those with money to burn
The world’s most sought after cigars, Davidoff Dom Perignons, go up

More coverage of FDA jurisdiction debate
‘Cigarette manufacturers are pleased: the US Supreme Court appears to
accept their argument that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the
federal drug regulator, does not have authority over tobacco. The
court’s ruling in the matter may not be known for months, but the
views of individual justices became clear during oral arguments.’

R.J Reynolds to use ‘safer tobacco’

likely to in two to three years start using tobacco that ‘has been
specially treated to reduce levels of cancer-causing chemicals called

‘Health Warnings on smoking’
‘There can few threats to public health as virulent as tobacco. With
high profile litigation between the American government and tobacco
companies in the background, a Health Select Committee began an
important inquiry last week. Its findings could have vital
implications both for UK litigation and for future public health
policy smoking.’
