Government Consultation on Tobacco Control (External Web Page)
The goverment has recently launched a consultation on the future of Tobacco Control. The Smokefree Action Coalition is a group of organisations committed to promoting public health. They came together initially to lobby for smokefree workplaces and are now committed to reducing the harm caused by tobacco more generally. The Smokefree Action Coaltion welcomes the commitment to a new national tobacco control strategy.
The Smokefree Action Coalition has just launched a new campaign to ensure that the new national strategy:
- Has the scope and ambition needed to tackle the full range of harm caused by tobacco
- Is funded sufficiently to succeed
- Is monitored, evaluated and updated regularly
- Enlists help from across civil society
Campaign for Reduced Ignition Propensity Cigarettes (External Web Page)
The Reduced Ignition Propensity Cigarettes (RIP) Coalition is an alliance of groups that want the Government to reduce the avoidable suffering caused by cigarette-started fires through the introduction of sensible product regulation.
To join the RIP coalition as a supporting organisation read the aims and objectives as stated in the mission statement.

Smokefree Action Lobby for Smokefree workplaces (External Web Page)
The Smokefree Action Coalition's previous campaign was for smokefree workplaces. The Smokefree legislation came into force on July 1st 2007. On July 1st 2008 all NHS premises will go smokefree.
The Coalition's website has been updated to reflect their latest campaign on the Government Consultation on Tobacco Control but the old site still exists as an archive. The old website offers a comprehensive range of resources and information on the campaign for smokefree law.
