150 vehicles of smugglers crushed a week
The Daily Telegraph reports, 'A record 150 vehicles a week are being seized
at British ferry ports and sent
to the crusher as Customs officers show no mercy under new legislation
against
cross-Channel smuggling... About 100 vehicles are currently waiting to be
crushed at a scrapyard in Essex.
The Telegraph adds, 'Legislation introduced earlier this year enables cars,
vans and trailers to be
destroyed if they contain loads of alcohol and cigarettes deemed too great
for
the owner's personal use.'
